"Procure high-quality, cost-effective materials from all over the world"
Lili, Material Procurement, Japan
Job Description
Negotiating procurement with suppliers around the world
I am in charge of material procurement for casting parts. Based on the design drawings, we select the most suitable suppliers from those around the world and prepare a flow that enables stable procurement. In addition to price, we also understand the production process of our suppliers, and select them based on logistics costs and a medium- to long-term business perspective.
When procurement negotiations begin, we try to make it a win-win situation for both companies. A deal in which one or the other has a hard time will not last long. We build trusting relationships so that our suppliers and Astemo engineers can work together to create synergy and move the mobility industry forward.
In addition, because we work with suppliers from all over the world, our organization is becoming more global. The organization I belong to in the casting field has members of various nationalities, including my boss. Exposure to a variety of ideas lets you see things from a wider perspective. You can also improve your business English language skills and communication abilities.
My role is to deepen bonds with various people around the world, both inside and outside the company, and to achieve the best manufacturing possible.
Motivation for Joining the Company
Global Expansion and Promotion of Diversity
I came to Japan to go to university. When looking for a job, we focused on the keyword "global diversity."
In fact, in my current job, I can interact with a wide variety of people from all over the world. Since there are many foreign nationals at each site, I feel that there is a high awareness of diversity and that it is an environment where people respect each other.
With Astemo, the scale of our business has become larger, and we have more and more opportunities to connect with the world. I feel that I can make more use of my background as a foreign national.

Useful Learning and Experience
Exposure to different positions and opinions
I spent about three months at an internship at another company's fishery cooperative. It was the first opportunity I ever had to talk to fishermen and fishery cooperative officials, so I was often left feeling confused.
However, a relationship of trust formed the more we talked. This experience is proving useful in my current work.
I listen to people with different positions and different opinions and treat them as equals. Objectively looking at other people's opinions and my own, I think about what kinds of proposals would be beneficial to both parties.
The experience of acknowledging differences and turning them into strengths remains very useful to me today.
Appeal of Astemo
No matter how young you are or what knowledge you lack, you can always take on new challenges
An environment where you can take on challenges from a time when you lack experience is appealing. In my case, I participated in a project when I was young in which I worked directly with business partners to advance business negotiations. At that time, I didn't know how to read drawings, so I would go and consult with my seniors, supervisors, and sometimes the designers who created the drawings.
Despite everyone being busy, they were always kind and helped support me. I wanted to learn and grow! There were many people who encouraged this youthful enthusiasm, so now I must live up to their expectations and take on challenges with all my heart. Every day is a fulfilling one.
